It has been quite a year in the makeup world. With the release of so many new products I had an extremely hard time to narrow down my year end favourites. With there being so many new releases this year, some products were great and some were, well, not so great. But today, we are going to focus on the products that I will continue to purchase.
The products that I have chosen as my year end makeup favourites for 2018 are not only long wearing, the formulas are fantastic and look amazing on the skin. Wearability and longevity of my makeup is what determines my favourite products. So rest assured that these products do just that. Now, let’s jump right in to 2018 year end makeup favourites.
Makeup Primer- Hourglass Veil $63 CAD
I first received this as a sample and when I tried it I knew I had to purchase the full sized bottle. It feels like silk on my skin and it is very light weight. A little goes long, long way. This Primer leaves a beautifully smooth finish and you can defeniately see the difference in your skin immeditely after use. I absolutely love how it moistureizes my skin and leaves a perfect canvas for my makeup. Yes, its a little pricey, but since a little goes a long way, and it actually does what it claims to, it’s totally worth it in my opinion. Because it has a white base, it evens out my skin tone beautifully.
Foundation-Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place $50 CAD
I have tried so many foundations in many different prices ranges. So far, this has been my favorite. I just repurchased my third bottle and I can’t live without it now!! It’s natural, but full coverage. It lasts all day and makes my makeup look better overall. I can’t say enough good things about this foundation. My only negative comment would be that it doesn’t come with a pump and I feel like maybe some of it goes to waste because I can’t pump it out. Other than that I would say this my perfect formula.
Concealer-Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape $35 CAD
This Concealer the Mother of holy grail concealers. Start slow and build up to your preferred coverage – that would be my suggestion! The formula of this concealer is super creamy and blendable. The best I have ever tried. It doesn’t leave my under-eyes dry or cakey. It is the perfect concealer for all ages.
Setting Powder-Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder $55 CAD
I have found my new holy grail of loose powder. This amazing product blurs pores, blends away unevenness in foundation application, and gives a healthy, natural glow. It layers nicely when I need extra coverage (which is all the time). I’m so elated that I found this!
Highlight & Contour-Kat Von V Shade + Light Face Contour Palette $64 Cad
I absolutely love contouring and this palette is literally everything I could ever ask for. I purchased ABH contour palette as one of the MANY contour palettes I have. However, this contour palette is so pigmented and the texture of the powders are so beautifully blendable. The pan size is perfect for brushes. This palette overall, is great for travel because it is housed in a hard case and it comes with the most perfect large sizedmirror. Get this in your collection. It is popular for a reason. .
Blush-NARS Orgasm Liquid Blush $38 CAD
I actually bought this on a whim and I couldn’t be more satisfied with this product. I like it much better than the Orgasm powder blush. It leaves a beautiful, smooth and dewy finish, as opposed to the powder which I feel is a bit too shimmery. I only need a drop for each side of my face and blend with either my fingers or a Beauty Blender sponge. A little goes a very long way, so the bottle will last me forever. I have no issue with the pump, and if you do unscrew it and drip a couple of dots on the back of your hand and screw it back on, no spillage, or mess. Fantastic Product overall
Eyeshadow Palette- Pat McGrath Mothership V Bronzed Seduction $170 CAD
A Mothership this is! The most incredible palette I have ever purchased. Ever. Period. Pictures and swatches you may see online doesn’t even come close to doing this palette justice. The shimmers are so multifaceted, that they have to be seen in person to show that it is truely phenomenal. The mattes are perfect. I’ve never been able to justify spending this much money on a palette until now. These shades are all wearable yet can be used to make super glam dramatic looks. I’ve tried so many high end brands on shadow (ABH, Marc Jacobs, UD, Viseart, MAC, Huda Beauty, etc.) and this blows everything else out of the water. Pat McGrath is on a whole other level. You just have to try it to believe it.
Eyeliner-Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Liner $25 CAD
For years, I’d religiously used Stila’s liner pen, but I was looking to try something new. I picked up this little pen and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! It can create the thinnest, subtlest lines or a thick wing, and the color payoff is amazing. I’m telling you, don’t be fooled by the big brands, because this is where it’s at!
Mascara-Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara $32 CAD
I have tried an obscene amount of mascaras over the years, and this is by far the best! It is super lengthening and gives a nice amount of volume. Lasts all day with no smudgeing or flaking, and the brush even catches the shorter inner lashes.
False Eyelashes-Velour Lashes Eyeshape Lash Kit $60 CAD
GURL.. These lashes are unreal, no eyeliner necessary and they just look like such natural hairs!! They’re a bit big, and it breaks my heart having to cut them, but you’re going to be wickedly uncomfortable if you don’t. And if you want them to last, try to avoid putting too much mascara in them! I find I don’t even need mascara with these lashes. Fantastic lashes!
Finishing Spray-Smashbox Photo Finish Water Primer $39 CAD
I have seen video after video on youtube of beauty guru’s promoting the Smashbox primer water and I just assumed Smashbox had sponsored them to promote their product. When Sephora released a smaller size, I figured I would check it out. This product is absolutely worth the hype!! I start everyday with this product. Smells amazing and feels cool and refreshing on the face. I throw the small size in my purse to refresh my makeup throughout the day at work. Also keeps my foundation from oxidizing! Good for sensitive skin and my new favourite Smashbox product!
Lipstick-Tom Ford Blush Nude $70 CAD
My holy grail lipstick. I’ve got about 12 different colors (Pink Dusk, Sable Smoke, Blush Nude, All Mine, Scarlet Rouge, Indian Rose, Sweet Tempest etc.) and the formula has been consistent across the board. Pigmented, lightweight, comfortable and long-wearing.
Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge $26 CAD
I have never tried such an amazing beauty sponge. This gives you a flawless, non-cakey finish. One thing I will say is that I will reperchase this forever.
Highlighter-Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder $60CAD
Absolutely beautiful. It’s extremely shimmery and looks amazing. This is definitely the best highlighter I’ve tried. I highly recommend this, even though it is pricy, it is well worth it!
Makeup Brushes-Natasha Denona 12 Piece Makeup Brush Set $120 CAD
I was hesitant to order this set based on the other reviews, but I decided to take a chance and I’m glad that I did! These brushes are travel size, so they are a bit smaller than the average brush, but overall this is a great set. Using them with my Natasha Denona palettes, I noticed less fallout and more pigment impact, so I think they are definitely a great companion to use along with her color products. I like a buffing style foundation brush, but I was unsure how this smaller version would work with my foundation…but my skin looked flawless with this brush! The container these brushes are housed in will be great for travel and has a fully removable lid if you want to display them on your vanity to look pretty when not in use. I have now cleaned the brushes quite a few times and have had no issues with bristle fall out at all. I bought these as a decision maker before investing in the bigger, more expensive Natasha Denona set…I’m sold
Well, there you have it! My all time favourite makeup products of 2018. I hope this post was helpful if you are looking to purchase products that tried and true! Let be know below your must-have makeup products.
